Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins First Title in 882 Days
Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a difficult year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the American major.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's first trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.
Success also indicates he has won 21 victories at 21 distinct competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.
The player's retrieving approach and recurring outbursts on court had led some to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was over.
But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serve.
The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the final five points to take the lead.
Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, took control to push for a third set.
He saved four early chances in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.
Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
